Lord of The Ring: Return of the King

Wow! That was an amazing movie! I never thought that I would actually end up liking the movie. I thought it would be like a Star Trek or Star Wars movie. I enjoyed every bit of it even though I have not seen the first movie; I still think the movie was great. I like the scene where they are fighting the bad guys that looked very odd. Not to be mean but they look like deform pigs. I think that was the part I like the most because it has so much action to it; it feels like I’m in the action too. The dragon like flying creature and the huge elephant was incredible. I think that has an impact to the movie because the creatures are so big and unbelievable. The setting in this movie was so dark and gloomy. It was like a deserted area with unending mountain ranges. The mood just feels so sad and depressing until the very end where they crown the king. One of the theme in this book and movie is limit of  fellowship. Frodo has to carry the ring to the volcano with Sam's help. The ring also has its own limit. It symbolizes isolation because whoever carries the ring has to complete the mission and have no interference. The ring also shows visions of things that only Frodo can see and he cannot show it to others and for that Frodo is tormented. The movie felt like it had two parts to it because it shows Frodo and Sam in another scene and the others fighting in another scene. They do not come together until the end of the movie because they have their own mission to complete.

Major Theme(s)

There were many themes in each of the books that we read this semester. Themes are important to the book because they are the main point or idea of the book. I am going to focus on three books that we read this semester and they are Frankenstein, Alice in Wonderland, and Lord of the Ring: Return of the King. I think those books had the most and important themes out of the books we read this semester. One of the themes in Frankenstein was suicide. Victor was scared and did not want to confront what he had done. Justine’s innocence, William’s death and the creation of the creature made him thought of suicide. One of the themes in Alice in Wonderland was dream. Alice thought she was in a dream, so she kept pinching herself to wake her up but it did not work. She finally notices that she was not dreaming and that she was facing reality in a wonderland. One theme in Lord of the Ring: Return of the King was bromance. I think bromance was the most important theme in the movie. Without Sam to help Frodo, I think that Frodo would have died where the spider attacked him in the movie. These themes are the ones that I thought were the most important from the books and movie.

"How To Train Your Dragon"

Wow, I already loveeeeeee the start of the movie. I thought this was going to be a BORING movie because it's about dragons?? and training them?? uhhh...that's going to be impossible. The title of the movie got me twisted and thinking all wrong. When I first heard about the movie, I thought it was going to be a fairy tale movie with the princess on the top of the tower waiting for her prince charming to save her from the dragon, and the prince charming captures the dragon and trains it. That's what I thought but I thought wrong. You never know it until you see or experience it. Overall, the beginning of the movie is going great and I can't wait to see the rest of the movie. :)

My Anti-HERO :)

Hero’s Name: Roy
Minor Character: Ly (pronounce Lee)
Villain: Toki
Master Teacher: Su
Setting: Ancient China
Plot: Roy is an orphan. His parents left him because they were too poor to raise him, so they gave him to the master of a martial arts school name Su. He raised him like Roy was his own son. Su raised Roy and thought that he could never do well because he was so scrawny and short that he may never defeat the villain. The villain Toki is master Su’s evil brother who betrayed their family and left to join an evil clan. Su taught Roy well and his mission was to defeat Toki and his clan. Roy did not defeat Toki alone; he had help with his one and only true friend Ly. They were friends since they knew how to talk, together they defeated Toki and his clan.
Roy is an anti-hero because his friend Ly was also an important character that helped him defeated the villain. He is also shorter than the average man and skinny and that made many people doubt him.

Alice in Wonderland

I never thought that this book and especially the movie was so great. I'm more of a movie person than a book person. At first, I just thought it would be a boring movie to start off with, but in the end it was a great choice. I really enjoyed the movie and the class activity that we had to do and best of all, we won the Oscar award!!!! YAY!!! I never really was interested in this movie or book since I was a kid. I remember watching it back in elementary school, but I never really enjoyed it, or perhaps I did not understand what was going on in the movie because of the way they spoke. I'm not saying that I dislike British accent, but it is hard trying to understand what they are saying. So I never really was interested in the movie or book. When the new Alice in Wonderland came out in 2010, I just thought it be a boring remake movie with fairy tale like scenes, but now since we watched the newest one in class, I think the movie is awesome!! I never thought that this book was British literature, even though the characters in the movie do speak British, I just thought it took place over there or because the author wanted it to be British like. Yes, I know I sometimes think very odd. Overall, I really enjoyed watching the movie. I'm exploring and learning things that I never realized that are British literature, or just in general. I think that without this class, I would not be learning about these books that I never thought were British literature and I would not be watching these great movies that I am missing out of.
